The idea was teased at the company’s developer conference SDC19 this week.
Does Samsung’s foldable screen technology really hold power? Reviews from Galaxy Folds indicate that despite many modifications, technology is still the way to go.
The new concept, which Samsung hasn’t yet given a name, resembles a traditional flip phone thanks to its vertically folding foldable screen.

Hyesoon Jeong, head of Samsung’s Framework R&D group, told in Samsung’s developer conference that “The new look factor we’re looking for now not only fits your pocket easily but will also change the way you use your phone.”
As The Verge points out, Samsung did not spend a lot of time detailing the device and did not provide any real indication during the company’s plans to make it available.
The Seoul-based company may want to address issues with its folding screen technology before doing so. Samsung’s revamp of the Galaxy Fold – copies of the original review were to be returned later – indicating that the phone has improved,
but is still incredibly fragile considering its two thousand dollar price tag.
Looking to the future
Samsung however clearly believes in the direction it has taken. However, no details were found as to the specifications for the flip phone concept, or whether the phone would use the same foldable screen technology as the Galaxy fold, using the concept to hint at the subject of new UI updates for all of its phones Was done.
Jeong explained, “As a pioneer of the scalable category, we understand that every innovative form requires an equally innovative user experience”.
Although details are lacking, the future of smartphones may return to flip phones – a technology that helped promote the first smartphone.
